Darmstadt, Germany – November 28, 2019 - Software AG announced that Gartner, Inc., a leading industry analyst firm, named it a Leader in its ‘Magic Quadrant for Integrated IT Portfolio Analysis Applications’ report (published on Nov. 13, 2019) for its IIPA product, Alfabet, for the ninth year in a row.*

  • Software AG positioned highest and furthest for its ability to execute and completeness of vision
  • Software AG also named a Leader in recent Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools (October 2019)
  • Integrated IT portfolio analysis (IIPA) proving essential for scaling digital business

Software AG’s Alfabet for IT Planning and Portfolio Management is a collaborative planning platform enabling all stakeholders to interface, communicate and consider multiple perspectives when making transformation decisions as well as prioritize investments based on alignment with business strategy. It links the interdependent perspectives of IT, business, finance and risk for across-the-board analysis of how IT can support business change.

For the report, Software AG was evaluated for its Alfabet platform among 6 different software vendors on 15 criteria.

Digital business demands profound change in a company’s operating model, offered products and services, organizational structure, IT development and delivery processes and the IT portfolio. The change in all of these areas must be a coordinated, well-planned effort and IIPA can provide the overview, interrelational aspects and governance that is needed to grow the digital business. The report states: “IIPA was initially pursued as a type of sophisticated self-management of assets and applications. However, it is now being leveraged by CIOs and their delegates, as well as business executives, who often are responsible for initiating or scaling digital business.”

The report also states: “Seeing the potential collisions or contradictions between future-state EA models and elements in different IT portfolios can help uncover areas of redundancy and waste. This is important because scaling digital business requires a strong alignment between evolved business models and strategies and a lean, increasingly agile, product-focused IT organization that can deliver continuous value.”

Stefan Sigg, Chief Product Officer at Software AG, said: “We believe this report clearly demonstrates the value of IIPA in large-scale transformation initiatives such as those our customers are engaged in. For many of them the starting point was using Alfabet for application portfolio management (APM) to free up investment funds for digital business innovation. This is why we’ve grounded our new product offering, Alfabet FastLane, on APM – to equip mid-size companies and those just starting into digital transformation with the means to make their IT lean and agile for fast delivery on business demand.”

Software AG is also positioned as a Leader in Gartner’s “Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools” (authored by: Marty Resnick and James McGovern; published: October 22, 2019).
